Annette Obrestad (18-Year-Old) Stuns Poker World With £1 Million Win in First World Series of Poker

LONDON – September 17, 2007Annette Obrestad became the youngest bracelet winner in World Series of Poker history early today by conquering the Main Event at the first annual WSOP Europe Presented by Betfair.com.
The 18-year-old Norwegian played masterfully over the course of the five-day £10,000 buy-in No-Limit Texas Hold’Em Championship, outlasting a field that included the strongest showing of professionals in European poker history.

“I never expected to win,” said the composed and articulate Oberstad, who turns 19 in just one day. “I’m speechless. I really don’t know what to say.”

“In the end, the Europeans dominated here,” said WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack. “But this is the start of a new tradition for the World Series of Poker and the European and global poker communities. WSOP Europe will provide more exciting action in the years to come and we’re confident poker greats from all over the world – and across the generations – will shine here, just as they have in Las Vegas.”

    WSOP Europe Began (WSOPE)

“We’re thrilled that so many of the game’s biggest names will participate in the World Series of Poker Europe presented by Betfair.com” said commissioner Jeffrey Pollack. “we fully expect World Series of Poker Europe presented by Betfair.com to become Europe’s preeminent poker tournament. The early sign ups and limited venue size means that each field will have limited capacity. If players want to play in these inaugural events alongside the best players in the world, I encourage them to pre-register well in advance to solidify their seat.” more here

WSOPE are live and some great players are fighting right now. Daniel Negreanu, Isabelle Mercier, Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan et much more are trying to win the main event. News updated live here.

    WSOP main event 2007

Main event of the world series of poker is on the way - Day 1C concluded today. 700 players remaining (1740 started). Main even should reach around 6000 entries which is less than 2006 but more than 2005. Lot of great players have been already eliminated like phil ivey, Doyle Brunson, Mike Matusow, TJ Cloutier, Phil Laak, Jennifer Tilly, Greg Ramer… I mean WOW! That’s tough. I bet a total stranger will be the winner again this year.

    Gus Hansen Wins Aussie Millions

Gus Hansen proved once again that he’s more than just a pretty face on January 18.

The “Great Dane”, who was signed as a Full Tilt pro at the 2006 World Series of Poker, did his sponsor proud when he beat out a field of 747 players, then neatly dispatched PokerStars online player and onetime tournament chip leader Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke. For his efforts–which were nicely topped off by a lucky final hand of pocket Aces–Hansen claimed a $1.5 million prize purse. Gobboboy isn’t hurtin’ too bad, though–he cashed a cool $1 million for his efforts. Full Tilt players made a good showing elsewhere at the event, too.

Erick Lindgren won the $100K buy in tournament, beating out fellow big-money players like Tony G and Daniel Negreanu to cash in for $1 million.
